Aurora LNG team members take part in an archeological survey on Digby Island.

In support of Aurora LNG’s Environmental Assessment Certificate Application, the following studies have been completed:

  • Nine (9) Marine mammal surveys (July 2014 – June 2015) 
  • Five (5) Marine birds surveys (July/Nov 2014 – Feb/Apr/June 2015) 
  • Targeted Marbled Murrelet nesting survey (May – August 2015) 
  • Marine fish surveys – 66 beach seines, 102 tangle nets, 17 trawl, prawn/crab traps, fin clip DNA, tissue sampling for toxicity (April/Aug 2014, Mar/Oct 2015, Jan 2016) 
  • Intertidal habitat surveys – total of 585 quadrants assessed (April/July/August/Sept 2014, Aug/Oct 2015, Jan 2016)
  • Two (2) dedicated eelgrass surveys within the project vicinity (July/Oct 2015) 
  • Freshwater fish habitat surveys: spring, summer, fall seasons – more than 24 km of stream reaches surveyed 
  • Water quality sampling at 30 lakes and 9 streams 
  • Marine sediment sampling – 335 grab samples and shallow core samples from 55 locations 
  • Vegetation, wetland and wildlife habitat assessments (June 2014 and January 2015) 
  • Wildlife transect surveys (July 2014 and May 2015) 
  • Amphibian surveys (June 2014 and May 2015) 
  • Detailed archeological surveys, assessing entire project area (ongoing)
