• WHO: Aurora LNG is a joint venture between Nexen Energy (a CNOOC Limited company) and INPEX Gas British Columbia Ltd. The partners have in-depth and complementary experience in every aspect of the LNG value chain – from upstream production to LNG facility engineering, construction and operation, and LNG marketing.
  • WHAT: Aurora LNG is studying the design, construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility and marine terminal on the coast of British Columbia.
  • WHERE: Aurora LNG is currently evaluating a site at Digby Island, west of Prince Rupert (2.3MB JPG). Activities to investigate the proposed site are guided by management plans to minimize disruption to the environment and surrounding community.
  • WHEN: The environmental assessment and review is underway. Construction of phase one could begin after 2020 dependent on certifications, requirements and consultations.
  • WHY: The partners share a common vision to deliver clean-burning natural gas from shale gas assets in northeast BC to growing Asia-Pacific markets. Natural gas is considered a bridge fuel to a low carbon economic future for emerging Asian countries. Prices are more robust in those markets.
  • HOW: Aurora LNG is a responsible energy developer, which means we seek to understand and actively manage health, safety and environmental factors associated with resource development. We are working with First Nations, local communities and other stakeholders to understand their concerns and views about the project and to look at opportunities for training and employment.
